Our School

Lakeland School District was formed by consolidating thirteen smaller school districts in 1949. Spirit Lake and Rathdrum High Schools operated until 1961 when they consolidated to create Lakeland High School. Lakeland High School operated at the old Rathdrum High School (currently Mountain View High School) until the new Lakeland High School (now Lakeland Middle School) was completed to accommodate a ninth through twelfth grade student body of 300 students in the winter of the 1962/63 school year. Lakeland Junior High School, which consisted of grades 7 and 8 was located in the Rathdrum High School building.  The current Lakeland High School facility was first occupied in 1979. At that time Lakeland Junior High School moved to its current location and added 9th grade.  Beginning in the fall of 1998, the Lakeland School District once again operated two high schools, with the opening of Timberlake High School.

During the fall of 2003, a bond issue was passed with 87 percent voter approval. Funds from the $6.9 million measure were used to build a new 7th and 8th grade Timberlake Junior High School, provide a Lakeland High School gymnasium/physical education facility, and modernize the Lakeland Junior High School ninth grade classroom corridor.

District patrons again overwhelming approved a $14.2 million school bond issue to build a new elementary school (Twin Lakes Elementary) and make improvements to Garwood and Spirit Lake Elementary Schools and Lakeland High School.

Beginning in the fall of 2021,  Lakeland Junior High School was  re-named Lakeland Middle School and now serves students in grades 6-7-8.  It is located at 15601 N. Highway 41, Rathdrum, Idaho.
